The Studio

Six people, and all six are there on the day

There is no account manager here who hands you to somebody else in month four. The person you meet first is the person standing in the doorway when the doors open.

Founder and lead planner

Twelve years, and hotel events before that. She takes six weddings a year herself and is in the doorway at every one of them.

Senior planner

Came from catering, which means she is the one who knows how long two hundred plates actually take to leave a kitchen.

Design lead

Palettes, florals, linens and the place setting built to scale. If your room looks like the drawing, it is because of her.

Production manager

Lorries, generators, marquees and the loading order. On the day he is with the vendors so the planners can be with you.

Vendors and logistics

Books, negotiates and chases. Keeps the shortlist honest, and has never once taken a shilling from anybody on it.

Day-of coordinator

Runs the guest flow — the aisle, the receiving line, the seating and the two hundred cars. Calm to a degree the rest of us find unnerving.

Working Here

Twenty weddings a year, and no Saturday twice

We are small on purpose. It means nobody on this team runs two weddings on the same day, and it means every one of us is on site rather than in an office.

The season is the shape of the year

November to March is relentless and June to September is not. We plan leave around that rather than pretending the work is even.

Saturdays, and the Monday after

Weddings happen at the weekend. So the studio is shut on the Monday after a wedding weekend, for everybody, without anyone having to ask.

You will run a wedding in year one

Not shadow one. Coordinators take their own ceremony by their third month, with a senior planner in the room and not in front of them.

About the Founder

Serwaa Ankomah

Serwaa Ankomah has been planning weddings in Accra for twelve years. She came to it from hotel events, which is why she thinks in run sheets and seating plans rather than in mood boards — and why nothing on your day happens later than it said it would.
