About us

A builder you can ring on a Sunday

We are fourteen people working out of a workshop in Adenta and an office in East Legon. Everybody who comes to your house is on our payroll, and the person who priced the job is the person who runs it.

Two carpenters and a borrowed van

Abode began in 2013 with two carpenters, a borrowed van and a workshop behind a house in Adenta. The first year was almost entirely doors and wardrobes, because that was what we could make and deliver ourselves.

What changed the business was being asked to fit a whole kitchen. It turned out the hard part was never the carpentry — it was making the plumber, the electrician and the tiler turn up in the right order. Learning to run that sequence is what turned a joinery shop into a renovation firm.

Fourteen people work here now and the workshop is still in Adenta. We have never advertised: every job since 2016 has come from somebody who saw the work in a friend's house.

Who you will meet

The people who run the jobs

Adzo Kpodo, site manager

Adzo Kpodo

Site manager

Runs the whole-house jobs and the programme. Trained as a quantity surveyor, which is why our quotes have an exclusions list and most builders' do not.

Naa Lamptey, finishing supervisor

Naa Lamptey

Finishing supervisor

Owns the snagging list, and will not sign a house off until it is empty. Has been known to send a whole run of skirting back over a 2mm gap.

Kwabena Osei

Workshop lead

Makes every wardrobe, door and staircase that leaves Adenta. Twenty-two years at the bench and a strong preference for odum over anything imported.

The boring part

Things you are entitled to check

Ask any builder for these four and watch how long it takes them to find them. Ours are in the office and you can have copies the same afternoon.

Registered and licensed

Abode, registered with the Registrar-General's Department and licensed with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.

Insured to GH₵ 2m

Public liability and contract works, renewed each January. We will send you the certificate before you sign anything.

Fourteen people on the payroll

Not a list of subcontractors. Everybody who comes to your house is employed here and has been for at least a year.

Two years, in writing

Our workmanship is guaranteed for two years from handover, and it is a clause in the contract rather than a promise on a website.

Why us

Why people ring us back

Nobody enjoys having builders in the house. What people tell us afterwards is that the difference was knowing who was coming, what it would cost and when it would end — so those are the three things we fixed first.

A named supervisor on site every working day

Fixed prices, written down before anybody starts

Two years' guarantee on our own workmanship

The house swept and the skip gone before we leave

What people say

Trusted by people who live here

They took the kitchen out on a Monday and we were cooking in it three weeks later, on the day they said. The price at the end was the price on the first page.

We had two builders quote before them and both were cheaper. Both also wanted half the money up front. Abode took a third, showed us the schedule, and never asked for more.

I let four flats and I have used them on all of them. What I pay for is not the tiling — it is that I get one call a week and I never have to go and stand there myself.

The old bathroom leaked into the room below every rainy season for six years. They stripped it to the block, tanked it and re-tiled. Two rainy seasons now, nothing.

We lived in the house the whole time with a two-year-old. Every evening the site was swept and the doors were on. That sounds small until you have had builders who did neither.

The rewire found things in that house that frightened me. They stopped, called me, showed me, and gave me a price to fix it before touching anything. That is all I wanted.
