Houses we have finished

Every job on this page belongs to somebody who still lives in it. Where a client was happy to be named we have named them; where they were not, the address is as close as we go.

Before and after

From a house you put up with to one you like

This is a three-bedroom in Adenta that had not been touched since it was built. Same footprint, same budget as a new kitchen and a car — new floor, new lighting, one wall taken out and the veranda brought inside.

How long

Roughly what to expect, before we have seen it

These are the honest averages across the last four years, not the best case. A survey narrows it to a date.

A day's repairs

One visit

Nine small things off the fridge list, done in a morning.

A bathroom

2–3 weeks

Longer if the waste needs rerouting or the walls need tanking.

A kitchen

3–4 weeks

Two of those weeks you cannot cook. We will tell you which two.

A full rewire

2 weeks

Plus a week of plastering and painting to put the walls back.

A whole house

10–16 weeks

Depends entirely on whether the structure or the roof is moving.

What people say

Trusted by people who live here

They took the kitchen out on a Monday and we were cooking in it three weeks later, on the day they said. The price at the end was the price on the first page.

We had two builders quote before them and both were cheaper. Both also wanted half the money up front. Abode took a third, showed us the schedule, and never asked for more.

I let four flats and I have used them on all of them. What I pay for is not the tiling — it is that I get one call a week and I never have to go and stand there myself.

The old bathroom leaked into the room below every rainy season for six years. They stripped it to the block, tanked it and re-tiled. Two rainy seasons now, nothing.

We lived in the house the whole time with a two-year-old. Every evening the site was swept and the doors were on. That sounds small until you have had builders who did neither.

The rewire found things in that house that frightened me. They stopped, called me, showed me, and gave me a price to fix it before touching anything. That is all I wanted.
