Questions
Fifteen answers to the things people actually ring up about, written out in full so that nobody has to ring up.
Book a tableGetting a table
Booking, and turning up
01
Do I need to book?
Midweek, usually not — walk in and we will find you something, though it may be at the bar. Friday and Saturday you should book, and for the yard you should book weeks ahead.
02
How long do I get the table for?
Two hours on a Friday or Saturday evening, and as long as you like on every other night. If nobody is waiting we will never move you.
03
Can I bring a party of twelve?
Yes, but tell us in advance so we can put the long table together in the yard. Twelve people arriving unannounced on a Saturday is the one thing that genuinely defeats us.
04
Are children welcome?
Entirely. There are high chairs, there is a plain jollof off-menu for small people, and nobody here has ever minded a bit of noise.
05
What if I am late?
Send a message and the table is held. Twenty minutes with no word on a busy Saturday and we will have to give it away, which we hate doing.
The food
Pepper, allergies and what is in it
01
How hot is the food, really?
Hotter than most restaurants in Accra, because the pepper goes in at the start rather than on the side. Every dish can be built milder — but say so when you order, not when it arrives.
02
Is there anything for vegetarians?
Nine dishes are cooked without meat or fish from the beginning, including red red, kelewele and a groundnut soup made on a vegetable base. They are not adapted versions of something else.
03
I am allergic to groundnut.
Tell whoever takes your order and it will go to the kitchen in writing. Peanut is in the suya spice and several sauces, so the list of what you can eat is shorter — but it is a real list, not two things.
04
Do you do takeaway?
Yes, and delivery through the usual apps within Osu, Labone and Cantonments. Anything off the fire travels well; anything in a soup bowl arrives less happy than it left.
05
Can I see the menu before I come?
The whole board is on the menu page with prices, and it is the same board that is on the wall. The only thing that changes is what the market did that morning.
Practical things
Parking, paying and the rest
01
Where do I park?
There are eight spaces behind the building off the lane, and the church lot two doors down lends us its yard after six on weekdays. Osu on a Saturday night is Osu on a Saturday night.
02
How do I pay?
Cash, card, and every mobile money network. Prices on the board include VAT and all levies; service is not added and never will be.
03
Is service included?
No. There is a tip jar by the pass and it is counted and split evenly between kitchen and floor at the end of every night. Nobody takes a cut of it.
04
Can I hire the whole place?
The yard takes forty and the whole room takes ninety. Both have a per-head price written down on the set menus page rather than quoted on the phone.
05
Do you cater off-site?
Anywhere in Greater Accra, from thirty people to three hundred, cooked on our charcoal where you are. Travel inside Greater Accra is not charged for.
Not answered?
Someone picks up the phone here.
Between two and eleven, every day but Monday, the phone in the kitchen is answered by a person who works here. WhatsApp is usually faster and is read all afternoon.

We open when the coals do.
The grill is lit at four and we cook until the last table has finished. Walk-ins get whatever is left; a table booked ahead gets the whole menu.
