We take one person a year.
Usually somebody who has run a wedding for their own family and found they liked the part everybody else hated. There is no qualification for this and we have stopped asking for one.
What it is like
A small practice, on purpose
Twenty Saturdays
Not fifty. We take around twenty weddings a year between six of us, which means you are never running two and you always get the rest of the weekend.
Paid properly
A salary rather than a share of commission — we take no commission from suppliers, so there is none to share. Overtime on wedding weekends is paid at time and a half, not swapped for a day off in February.
Taught the rites
Two years of standing beside Esi and Adjoa at knockings and engagements before you lead one. There is no course for this in Ghana and we have stopped waiting for somebody to build one.
January off
The studio closes for the first two weeks of January every year, paid. After harmattan season everybody needs it and pretending otherwise is how planners leave the trade at thirty-one.

Junior planner
Two years beside a lead planner, then your own weddings. You will spend the first six months writing run sheets, sitting in family meetings and learning which supplier answers their phone. Suits somebody who has run a large family event and enjoyed the part everyone else dreaded.

Production assistant
On site from six with Kwabena. Marquees, floors, generators, deliveries and the counting back at midnight. Physical, early, and the fastest way anybody has ever learnt this trade. A driving licence matters more than a degree.

Write a letter rather than send a CV. Tell us about one event you have run and one thing that went wrong at it.

It is early, hot and long

You will be on a lawn at six in the morning in December and still there at midnight counting chairs. Somebody's mother will cry at you. In exchange you will stand at the back of four hundred people watching two families become one, twenty times a year, and know you built the afternoon.
If that reads as a warning, it is not the job.
