The Studio

Six people, and one of them is yours.

We are small on purpose. A practice large enough to run four weddings on one Saturday is a diary; on the day you find out which of the four you were.

The practice

Everyone you will meet

Esi Bonsu

Founder, lead planner

Started the practice from her mother's front room in 2009. Has run every one of the two hundred and sixty.

Adjoa Mensimah

Planner, traditional rites

Knows the Akan, Ga and Ewe orders of service, and which aunt to ring first in each.

Naa Ayeley Quaye

Design and styling

Draws every table, every canopy and every cloth before a single thing is hired.

Kwabena Asare

Production and venues

On site from six in the morning. Owns the relationship with every marquee firm from Accra to Aburi.

Yaa Antwiwaa

Guests and hospitality

Runs the list, the seating and the four hundred people who all arrive at once.

Kojo Dartey

Suppliers and budgets

Prices everything in cedis before it is booked, and tells you when something is not worth it.

Where we all are on the day

From six

Kwabena is at the venue before the marquee crew. Floor down, generator tested, chairs counted against the plan and the first delivery signed for.

From nine

Your planner is with you wherever you are getting ready. Naa is at the venue dressing tables against her own drawing, not against a photograph on somebody's phone.

From two

Yaa takes the door. Seating, the dietary list, the eleven who did not reply and the two who came to the wrong venue.

Until it is done

Somebody from this studio is the last person to leave every wedding we run. Hired goods counted back, gifts locked in one car, and the family sent home.

We take one person a year

Usually somebody who has run a wedding of their own family's and found they liked the part everybody else hated. There is no course for this and we have stopped looking for one.

What we look for

We would love to hear about your day.
