About our laboratory mission

A diagnostic laboratory that answers the phone

We have been testing in Accra since 2004. What patients ask us for most often is not a faster result — it is a result somebody is willing to explain.

Sample collection

Walk in, or we come to you anywhere in Greater Accra.

Accredited testing

ISO 15189 methods, run twice, checked by a second scientist.

Results you can act on

Plain-language reports, most of them back the same evening.

Everything is run here

Nothing is sent out and repackaged with our name on it. Haematology, chemistry, serology, microbiology and molecular work all happen in this building, which is why we can tell you exactly who ran your sample and when.

Every abnormal result is run twice

If a figure falls outside its reference range it goes back on the bench before it goes anywhere near a report. It costs us a reagent and twenty minutes. It has saved patients from treatment they never needed.

The report is written to be read

A reference range, a plain sentence saying whether you sit inside it, and a note where something is worth repeating. You should not need a medical degree to read your own blood count.

About our laboratory mission

Delivering trusted diagnostics means a clear answer for every patient who walks in, our methods, and our promise

Accreditation is the floor, not the ceiling. ISO 15189 tells you a method was followed; it does not tell you whether anybody looked at the number afterwards and thought about the person attached to it. We do both, and we would rather be judged on the second.

Why we opened

A laboratory that answers the phone

Ben Mensah spent eleven years in hospital haematology watching patients leave with a printout nobody had time to explain. The lab he opened on the Spintex Road in 2004 had two rooms, one analyser and a rule that has not changed since: if a result is abnormal, somebody here calls the patient before the report goes out. Twenty-two years later there are nineteen collection points and sixty-four staff, and the rule is still the rule.

I had been sent for the same test three times by three different places and got three different answers. Assay ran it once, called me the same evening to explain what the number meant, and sent the report to my doctor before I got home.
