Patients, in their own words

Nine thousand two hundred people are registered here and ninety-one per cent of them are still registered five years later. These are some of the reasons they give.

What people actually came in for

Every one of these was written by the patient and published with their permission. We have not tidied the grammar.

My pressure had been high for years and three clinics had put me on three different tablets without ever asking why. Dr Attipoe spent forty minutes on the history, changed one thing, and asked me back in a month. It has been where it should be ever since.

Kwesi Amankwah

Chronic care, since 2021

All three of my children have been on the register since the eldest was two. What I did not expect was that the nurses would know their names, or that somebody would ring the day after a bad night to ask how she was.

Naa Adjeley Tetteh

Under-fives clinic, since 2019

I rang the emergency line at ten at night about my father. A doctor called me back inside the hour, told me exactly what to watch for, and met us at the clinic at half past six the next morning. No practice had ever done that for us.

Airport Residential, Accra

Dr Hale found the thing three other clinics had missed, and he did it by listening for twenty minutes instead of six. I have not been anywhere else since.

Blood work at nine, results and a plan by half eleven. Nobody made me come back for it.

N

Naa Adjeley Tetteh

East Legon, Accra

They have looked after all three of my children since the eldest was two. The nurses know their names, which matters more than I expected.

My blood pressure has been where it should be for two years now. That is entirely their doing.

I called at ten at night about my father and a doctor rang me back within the hour. No clinic had ever done that for us before.

The fees are on the wall and on the website. I have never once been surprised by a bill here.

Abelemkpe, Accra

I was dreading the whole thing and left feeling like somebody was finally on my side. That is not a small thing to manage.

Twelve years of my family's records in one place, and a doctor who has actually read them.

Every patient is handed a five-question card on the way out, and the results go up in the waiting room each quarter — including the quarters they are not flattering. If yours was one of the bad ones, the medical director reads those first.
