Everything reception gets asked

Ten questions, answered properly rather than in one line each. If yours is not here, the phone is answered between half past seven and seven.

Questions

Ten questions

The ones reception is asked most

If yours is not here, ring and ask. Nobody at this practice will make you feel foolish for wanting to know what something costs or how long it takes.

01

How do I register as a new patient?

Come to reception with a photo ID and your NHIS or scheme card. Registration takes about ten minutes and you can usually be given an appointment the same week — often the same day if you arrive before nine.

02

How long will I wait for an appointment?

Two working days is the median for a routine appointment. Slots are held back every morning for anything urgent, and nobody with a genuine emergency is ever asked to wait for a booking.

03

Do you take NHIS?

Yes. NHIS covers the standard consultation, most laboratory work and the full childhood immunisation schedule here. It does not cover the extended consultation, executive screening or travel vaccines, and we will tell you which of those applies before you agree to anything.

04

Which private schemes do you bill directly?

Acacia Health, Nationwide Medical, GLICO Healthcare, Apex Health and Premier Mutual. Bring the card and your member number and there is nothing to settle at the desk.

05

Will I see the same doctor each time?

You are registered to one physician and you see them unless they are away. When somebody covers, they will have read the same file — the notes are shared, and the six of us discuss anything complicated.

06

What do I do if something happens at night?

Ring the emergency line. A duty doctor answers it at any hour of any day — not a service, not a message. One of the six is on it every night, and they will tell you whether to come in, go to hospital or wait until morning.

07

How quickly do results come back?

Most laboratory work is done in-house and back the same morning. Anything sent out takes two to four days, and we ring you with it rather than waiting for you to ring us.

08

Can I get a repeat prescription without an appointment?

If you are on the chronic care register, yes — ring reception and collect it the next working day. Anything new, or anything that has not been reviewed in six months, needs an appointment first.

09

Do you see children?

About a third of the register is under sixteen. Dr Osei-Bonsu runs the under-fives clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and all six doctors see older children.

10

Can I get a copy of my records?

They are yours. Ask at reception and we will print or email them within two working days, at no charge. If you are moving to another practice we will send them on directly, with a summary letter.
