About
A small shop that would rather sell out
Thread has been on Oxford Street since 2017. Three rooms, fourteen makers, and a rule that nothing goes on a rail until somebody here has washed it four times.

How a run gets bought
We wash it before we buy it
Nothing goes on a rail here that has not been through a machine first. We buy one of everything, wash it four times at the temperature people actually use, and see what happens to the collar, the seams and the colour. Most of what we look at does not survive that.
What does survive gets bought in a run of thirty to eighty, in three or four sizes, and that is the whole order. We are not trying to have your size in every colour. We are trying to have one shirt you will still be wearing in 2029.
It means we sell out, often, and it means we cannot always get more. We think that is the better half of the trade, and everyone who works here would rather explain that than explain a bobbled jumper.
Who you will meet
The four of us who choose it

Lena Marchetti
Head buyer
Chooses every run, and is the reason we do not stock anything that pills.

Marcus Hale
Shop manager, Osu
Has worked the Oxford Street floor since it opened and knows what came in on Tuesday.

Idris Rahman
Alterations
Pins hems and sleeves while you wait, and quotes anything larger before he starts.

Priya Raman
Studio and styling
Shoots everything you see on the site, on people who are actually that size.

The shirt is three years old and still going
“I bought a linen shirt from the Osu shop in 2023 and it has been through every wash since. The collar has not gone soft and the buttons are all still the ones it came with. I have replaced everything else I owned from that year twice.”
