Our story
Nine years, six decisions
Most of what makes this shop what it is came out of something going wrong. Here they are in order, with what each one changed.
One room on Oxford Street
Forty square metres, one rail, and a run of eighty shirts bought on a credit card.
A machine in the back
A customer asked for a hem, we said yes, and it has been free on everything we sell since.
The washing rule
A jumper came back pilled after three weeks. Nothing has gone on a rail unwashed since.
The website, properly
Real measurements on every listing instead of a size chart, which halved the returns overnight.
The second room
East Legon, and the first time two people had to agree on what we were buying.
Kumasi, and fourteen makers
A third room, an alterations bench in each of them, and a waiting list of makers.
Fourteen workshops, all of them visited
We do not buy from anybody we have not stood in the room with. That started as a practicality — the first two makers were a ten-minute walk away — and it has stayed the rule as the list has grown.
It costs us range. There are things we cannot sell because the only people who make them well are on another continent and we have not been. We have decided we can live with that.

What people tell us
Five of the notes people have left us, printed as they were written.

The shirt is three years old and still going
“I bought a linen shirt from the Osu shop in 2023 and it has been through every wash since. The collar has not gone soft and the buttons are all still the ones it came with. I have replaced everything else I owned from that year twice.”

Come and see it on a hanger
Three rooms in Ghana, open seven days between them, with somebody on the floor who can tell you how a fabric behaves after ten washes.
