Measuring our commitment

Anchor is a 180-bed teaching hospital in Airport Residential, Accra. We run an emergency department that never closes, four theatres, a level-two neonatal unit and eight general clinics — and about nine in ten of the people who come through the door leave the same day.

What we are trying to be is unremarkable in the best sense: a hospital where the scan happens when it was booked, the results reach your own doctor, and somebody rings you when something changes. None of that is difficult. All of it is a choice about how the place is run.

— Dr Adjoa Mensimah, Medical Director

Founded in 2000

Two consulting rooms on the Spintex Road, opened by a physician who had spent nine years watching people wait. The waiting is still the thing we measure ourselves against.

A teaching hospital

Accredited by the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons since 2013. Fourteen residents train here at any time, and every one of them presents at the Friday mortality meeting.

Outcomes in public

Infection rates, readmissions, waiting times and mortality, published every quarter on this site — the good quarters and the bad ones, unedited.

Our mission is to deliver advanced, personalised healthcare that gives every person in Accra a fair chance at a longer and healthier life.

Our vision is to be the health partner Ghanaian families choose first — through ethical practice, published outcomes and an unbroken commitment to patient well-being.

Patient Stories

What people say after they leave

My mother was admitted at two in the morning and somebody rang me at six to say exactly what had happened and what would happen next. Nobody had ever done that before.

Osu, Accra

I went in for a scan expecting to lose the whole day. I was out in ninety minutes and the results were with my own doctor before I got home.

Dr Sarpong told me what she did not know as clearly as what she did. I have never been so reassured by someone admitting the limits of a test.
