Book Your Child In, In About Two Minutes

No referral letter, no portal to register for, and a person on the end of the phone who can see the clinic diary.

Three Ways In

Book However Suits You

There is no form to fill in and no portal to register for. A person answers, and that person can see the clinic diary.

Ring the desk

The paediatric appointments desk answers from 7am to 8pm, seven days. Describe it in your own words — they will work out which clinic you need.

Send a message

Write to us with your child's age and what is worrying you. We reply within one working day, and sooner if what you describe should not wait.

Just come in

The children's emergency department never closes and never turns anybody away. For an emergency, do not book — come straight to Volta Street.

Get directions

01

Tell us what is happening

Your child's age, what you have noticed and how long for. You do not need a referral letter and you do not need a diagnosis.

02

We match the clinic

The desk books you with the consultant who should see this, not the first one with a gap. If that is next week and it should be today, they will say so.

03

Come in and stay together

Arrive fifteen minutes early. You stay with your child through every part of the visit, including imaging and bloods, unless there is a physical reason you cannot.

What To Bring

None of this is a condition of being seen. It just means the consultation is spent on your child rather than on reconstructing a history.

Your child's immunisation card, or a photograph of it on your phone

Any medicines they are taking, in the boxes rather than written down

Your NHIS card or insurer details, if you have them — and come anyway if you do not

The name of anybody who has already seen them about this

If you cannot pay today

No child is turned away from the emergency department for money, ever. If a family cannot meet a bill, the ward sister refers it to the hospital's own assistance fund the same day rather than at discharge.

We hold NHIS and cashless arrangements with the major private insurers, and the fees desk will tell you what you owe before a procedure rather than after it.

Our Promise

Four Things We Will Not Compromise On

Open Every Hour

A consultant paediatrician physically present from eight in the morning until midnight, and on call in the building overnight. Every night.

One Team, One File

Three specialities in one morning rather than three appointments in three months — and one set of notes that all of them write in.

Parents Stay

A parent bed beside every cot on every ward. Nobody has ever been asked to leave their child here at visiting time.

Said Plainly

Every result explained in words you can repeat to somebody else, and written down before you go home. Acronyms are our problem, not yours.

Parent Stories

What Families Say After They Go Home

My daughter was admitted at two in the morning and somebody rang me at six to say exactly what had happened and what would happen next. Nobody had ever done that before.

They let me stay in the room the whole night. The nurse explained the monitor to me twice without once making me feel stupid for asking.

Dr Quarshie told me what she did not know as clearly as what she did. I have never been so reassured by somebody admitting the limits of a test.
