A white unlabelled cream tube and a small pink jar on a pale ledge, palm-leaf shadows falling across a blush pink wall
A thick smear of white cream drawn across a warm beige ground

Out of the jar it is a balm. It turns to an oil between two fingers and there is nothing on the surface ninety seconds later.

A brown hand scooping soft white balm from an open tub on a wooden board, amber dropper bottles, wooden bowls and a small whisk on the white bench around it

Two fingers, never a whole palm. At that rate a jar lasts most people about three months.

GH₵ 180

50 ml in a glass jar

Unrefined shea from a co-operative outside Tamale, whipped with baobab oil until it is light enough to wear at eight in the morning in Accra. It sinks in rather than sitting on top of the day, and it leaves no shine under sunscreen.

It will not fade a dark mark and we would rather say so here than have you find out over eight weeks. If that is what you came for, ask us about the niacinamide night oil instead.

Free delivery in Accra over GH₵ 300, the same day if the order is in before noon.

Thirty days to change your mind, opened jars included.

Patch tested on a panel in Accra before it went anywhere near a shelf.

What is in it

Six things, and what each one is doing

The whole formula, in the order there is most of. Nothing here is a fragrance and nothing here is on the list to make the list longer.

Unrefined shea butter

Thirty-eight per cent. Cold pressed by a women's co-operative outside Tamale and never bleached, which is why it smells faintly of woodsmoke rather than of nothing.

Baobab seed oil

Twelve per cent. It thins the shea down so the cream sinks in instead of sitting on top of a humid morning.

Glycerine

Six per cent. It pulls water into the skin and holds it there, and it is the reason this still works through harmattan.

Squalane

Five per cent, from sugarcane and not from a shark. It fills the gaps between skin cells so less water leaves overnight.

Niacinamide

Two per cent, which is enough to calm redness over a few weeks and not enough to sting on skin that has been in the sun.

Water, emulsifier and preservative

Thirty-seven per cent. A cream is mostly water, and the preservative is the reason a jar opened in March is still safe to use in June.

How to use it

Two minutes, twice a day

It is a moisturiser, so it is the fourth step and not the first. Cleanse, mist, serum, then this, then sunscreen if the sun is up.

01

Warm half a fingertip

Rub it between two fingers until it stops being a balm and turns to an oil. It goes twice as far that way, and more of it will not work faster, it will only shine.

02

On damp skin, not dry

Straight after a wash or the hibiscus mist, while your face is still slightly wet. That is what gives the glycerine something to hold on to.

03

Morning and night

Under sunscreen in the morning, on its own before bed. Give it ninety seconds to go in before anything else goes on top of it.

Everything else off the box

Seven lines, and they are the same seven printed on the box in Osu. If one of them is what decides it, ring 030 273 4180 and whoever picks up is standing next to a jar.

Size

50 ml, in glass with a metal lid

Texture

A light whipped balm that melts at body heat

Skin type

Dry, normal and combination. Oily by midday, ask about the rice water essence instead.

Fragrance

None added. The faint nutty smell is the shea itself.

pH

5.5, which is where skin already sits

Once opened

Six months. The small open jar on the base says 6M.

What people actually say

Every one of these is from somebody who bought the thing they are talking about.

Before you ask

About this one

The five we answer most often, on the phone and across the counter in Osu. The rest, including refills and wholesale, are on the questions page.

Read every question

How long does delivery take?

Accra and Tema go out the same day if the order is in before two, by rider, and you get his number. Kumasi and Takoradi are next day by bus, Tamale is two days, and the waybill number comes to you by SMS the moment the box leaves us. Delivery is free anywhere in Ghana over GH₵ 300.

Can I pay on delivery?

In Accra and Tema, yes: pay the rider by mobile money or in cash once the box is in your hands. Outside those two the bus company needs the order settled before it goes on, so it is mobile money or card first. Nothing is stored on our side either way.

Does the SPF leave a white cast on deep skin?

No, and it is the one product we reformulated three times to be able to say that. It goes on white and it is gone in about thirty seconds on every depth of skin we have tested it on, which is all of them, in daylight, on the shop floor. Come to Osu and put it on your own jaw before you buy it.

Can I return a jar I have already opened?

Within thirty days, opened or not. Skincare has to be used before anyone can judge it, and a jar somebody was afraid to open is no use to us or to them. Bring it to Osu or hand it back to the rider, and the refund goes to the account you paid from within three working days.

Is any of it safe to use while pregnant?

Most of it, and we would rather you asked than guessed. The cleanser, the mist, the shea cream, the baobab butter and the SPF are the ones we hand people without hesitating. For the three serums, take the ingredient list to your midwife or your doctor first, and ring 030 273 4180 if you would like somebody to read it out to you.
