Questions
Everything people ask before they say yes
Answered at the length the question deserves. If yours is not here, ring the estimating office — somebody who has actually held a brush will pick up.

Before we start
Do I pay for the survey?
No, and there is no obligation attached to it. Somebody comes out, measures, looks behind the paint and sends a written figure within three working days. If you take three quotes and ours is the highest, we would rather you knew why than that we shaved the preparation off it.
How far ahead do I need to book?
Two to four weeks for a house, longer between October and December when everybody wants the place right before Christmas. Single rooms and small repairs we can usually fit inside a fortnight.
Do I have to move out?
Almost never. We work room by room, sheet everything and leave you a bedroom and a bathroom that are usable every night. The exception is a whole-house spray job, which is four days and is much faster with nobody in it.

What hours do the crews work?
Half seven to half five on residential work, Monday to Saturday. Commercial jobs are usually out of hours, and we will not start before eight on a Saturday in a residential street however far behind we are.
Is it safe around children and pets?
Every interior colour we use is water-based and low-VOC, and rooms are usable within a couple of hours of the last coat. Tools and tins go back in the van each evening rather than being left in the room.
Can I change my mind about a colour halfway through?
Up to the point where that room is cut in, yes, and it costs nothing but the paint already opened. After that we would be repainting, and we will tell you honestly what it adds before you decide.

What exactly does the guarantee cover?
Five years on interiors and three on exteriors, against flaking, blistering, cracking and colour failure. It does not cover damp coming through from outside or damage — but if it is the paint or the preparation, we come back and redo that elevation without argument.
What if a wall gets scuffed later?
We label the leftovers room by room and leave them with you. If you have run out, the mix is in our archive under your name — including bespoke colours — so a repair three years later is the same colour rather than nearly.
Do you maintain buildings on a rolling contract?
Yes, and about a fifth of our work is that: common parts every three years, individual units at changeover, with a stock of the block's colour held in our workshop. It is priced annually rather than per visit.

Our answers to your questions
Look at our FAQ pageWhat does a residential job actually include?
Moving and sheeting the furniture, filling and sanding, sealing bare plaster, two full coats, and putting the room back the way we found it. Skirtings, architraves and ceilings are in the price unless the quote says otherwise — we would rather write a bigger number than argue about a smaller one later.
Can you work around a business that has to stay open?
Most of our commercial work happens between six in the evening and six in the morning, in sections, with everything sheeted and cleared before the doors open. We have done four floors of an office on Independence Avenue without a single working day lost.
Are the paints low-odour and safe around children?
Every interior colour in our own collection is water-based, low-VOC and effectively odourless within a couple of hours. Nurseries and clinics get the anti-mould emulsion as standard, at no extra cost.
What happens if something goes wrong afterwards?
Interior work is guaranteed for five years and exterior for three, in writing, against flaking, blistering and colour failure. If it lifts, we come back and redo that elevation — no argument about whose fault the wall is.
