What NHIS does and does not carry
Consultation, most laboratory work and the essential medicines list are covered
Ultrasound and plain x-ray are covered; echocardiography is not
Dental extraction is covered; scaling, fillings and root canal are not
Physiotherapy is not covered by NHIS but is by five of the private schemes
Anything not covered is quoted before it happens, in writing if you want it
No scheme at all? Nothing changes except who pays. The same fees sheet applies, and the desk takes cash, card and mobile money.
If cost is
The billing desk can spread a large bill over three months at no interest, and there is a hardship fund the clinical director signs off. Neither is advertised at the counter; both exist.
