Ten departments

One building,

one visit

The laboratory, the imaging suite and the dispensary are all ours and all in this building, which is why a question raised at ten is usually answered by one.

Four daily, six on named days

Everything the

building does

Four run every weekday. The other six run on named days with the same consultant each time, so you are never seen by whoever happens to be on.

Cardiology

Echocardiography, ECG and 24-hour Holter monitoring, read the same day by a consultant rather than sent away and chased for a fortnight.

Neurology

Headache, epilepsy, stroke follow-up and nerve conduction studies, with EEG on site and clinics that run Tuesdays and Fridays.

Eye care

Refraction, glaucoma screening, diabetic retinal photography and cataract referral, in a room built for it rather than a corner of a consulting room.

Dental

Scaling and polishing, fillings, extractions and root canal treatment, with digital x-ray in the chair and a hygienist five days a week.

Family medicine

The clinic's front door: coughs, fevers, blood pressure, diabetes, travel vaccinations and the long conversation about what is actually wrong.

Paediatrics

Newborn checks, immunisation, growth monitoring and the sick child who needs seeing today rather than on Thursday.

Maternity

Antenatal care from booking to delivery, shared with the hospital of your choosing, plus postnatal and family planning clinics.

Laboratory

Full blood count, biochemistry, cultures and rapid tests, processed on the premises with most results back inside three hours.

Imaging

Digital x-ray and ultrasound in the building, reported by a radiologist rather than by the machine.

Physiotherapy

Back and neck pain, sports injury, post-operative rehabilitation and stroke recovery, in a gym rather than on a couch.

A doctor listening to a patient's chest with a stethoscope

Runs every weekday

Family medicine

Four family physicians, and you can ask for the same one every time. Twenty-minute appointments as standard rather than the seven minutes that make a consultation a conveyor belt. Chronic care — hypertension, diabetes, asthma — runs on a recall list, so if you miss a review somebody notices and rings you.

The same physician every visit if you ask for one

Chronic care on a recall list — we ring you, not the other way round

Travel vaccination and yellow-fever certification

A doctor examining a young girl during a checkup

Runs every weekday

Paediatrics

A separate waiting area with a door on it, because a feverish two-year-old should not be sitting next to somebody waiting for a cardiology review. The full Ghana Health Service immunisation schedule is kept here at cost. Dr Agyemang holds an open clinic every weekday morning for children under five with no appointment at all.

A laboratory scientist working at a microscope

Runs every weekday

Laboratory

The lab is ours rather than an agency's counter, which is the difference between a result at 11am and a result on Friday. Full blood count, malaria RDT and microscopy, liver and kidney panels, lipids, HbA1c, urine and stool, cultures and sensitivities. Results go to your doctor and to your phone at the same time.

The clinic's imaging suite

Runs every weekday

Imaging

Chest and skeletal x-ray, abdominal and pelvic ultrasound, obstetric scanning and echocardiography. Films are reported by a consultant radiologist the same working day and stored against your record, so the next doctor who needs them does not start by asking you to have the scan again.
