Our history

Since 2016

Two rooms, one machine and a borrowed cutting table. Six decisions later, this is where the house is.

Since 2016

Ten years, six turns

The six decisions that changed what the workshop could make, in the order they were taken.

2016

Two rooms on Ninth Lane

Naa Adjeley Tetteh took two rooms in Osu with one industrial machine and a cutting table borrowed from a tailor down the street. The first year was bags only, because a bag was the thing she had wanted and could not buy.

2018

The tannery in Kumasi

Until then the leather was bought finished, by the metre, from whoever had it that month. We went up to a tannery in Kumasi and started ordering by the skin, full grain and vegetable tanned, and we have bought from the same yard ever since.

2020

Upstairs

The floor above the shop came free and the workshop moved into it. The bench doubled, the machines went in over the customers' heads, and you can hear them from the shop on any weekday morning.

2022

The Elmina Weekender

A year to get right, and still the hardest thing the workshop makes: a skived base, two zips and a lining that has to be finished before the bag is closed. Kofi Mensah-Bonsu cuts every one of them himself.

2024

Thirty eight countries

Boxes went out to thirty eight countries, most of them one at a time. Everything that leaves Accra carries the repair note in the lid, because a bag that comes back to us is cheaper than a customer who does not.

2026

Made to measure

Opened in the spring, for tailoring and for bags. You come in and we take the measurements, or you send us a garment that fits and the workshop matches it. Four to six weeks, either way.
