Come in

The shop in Osu

One room on Ninth Lane, with the workshop above it and everything we are making at the moment on the floor.

Leather belts hung on a whitewashed brick wall beside a stripped wooden door and a pile of bags

Osu, Accra

One shop, and the workshop above it

The shop is one room, and it holds everything the workshop is making at the moment in the colours we have. The stairs at the back go up to the benches, so whatever you pick up was cut about six metres from where you are standing.

In the room

What the shop is for

Four things you cannot do from a phone, and the reason the door is worth the trip.

Carry it around first

Everything on the floor is there to be picked up. Put your own things in a tote, walk it round the room for ten minutes, and see whether the strap sits where you want it.

Watch the workshop

The machines run upstairs from Monday to Saturday. On a Saturday morning, by appointment, you can come up and stand at the bench while a bag is cut and closed.

Bring it back

Repairs are free for two years on anything the workshop made, and at cost after that. Leave it with Yaw at the counter and he will tell you the day it is ready.

Be measured

Made to measure is fitted here, for tailoring and for bags. Bring a garment that fits and Ama will match it, or we take the measurements ourselves. Four to six weeks.

Osu

Getting there

The lane is small and the sign is smaller. If you are coming to be measured, or to go upstairs on a Saturday, ring first and we will keep the time.

By car

Ninth Lane runs off Oxford Street. There is room for three cars in the yard behind the shop, and the lane itself after that.

By taxi

Any driver knows Oxford Street. Ask for Ninth Lane in Osu, and we are on the left, the building with the workshop windows over the door.

On foot

Four minutes from Oxford Street and about fifteen from Danquah Circle. The lane is quiet, which is most of the reason we are on it.

Or start with what is in

Everything the shop has is on the site, with the measurements and the weight written on each piece. Come in and hold it after, or have it sent.
